A winter reminder list

As the temperatures begin to dip and become colder overnight, we wanted to send out just a few reminders and tips:

• Be sure that you have your ice scraper / snow remover for your vehicle handy.
• Remember to detach your hose from your outdoor spigot.
• Cover your outdoor air conditioning units if they are not used for heat.
• Be sure that your grill is away, and propane properly shut off.
• Keep your shovels and any de-icer or snow salt in a handy spot.
• Remember, if it does snow to keep your walkways and mailbox paths clear.
• Should you have a drafty window, be sure to seal or secure it properly.
• Be sure your gutters are clear and free of debris. Icicles are not only heavy, but dangerous too.
• If you have ceiling fans, reverse the speed so the warm air blows back down.
• Properly stow or winterize your gas-powered equipment.
• Hold off on the pruning! While it is tempting to cut back, unless absolutely needed, avoid cutting back tree branches & shrubs. In doing so you can affect the spring growth, so wait until late winter.
• This is also a great time to check your home insurance policy.
