Thanksgiving Traveling Tips

Wednesday and Thursday are two of the biggest travel days in the US. AAA is predicting that approximately 48.3 million people will head out in their vehicles and hit the roads this Thanksgiving. This is a holiday that is notoriously known for its travel woes, so we want to be sure that you are prepared.

Here are just a few things that may help you during your traveling this Thanksgiving.

Pack ahead: Be sure to have everything ready and packed prior to leaving. This leaves you with less to do that could save you precious minutes if running behind. A few minutes during this time of the year could equal the difference between being ahead of the traffic, or stuck in traffic.

Quality Inspection: Do a quality inspection the day before, as well as the day of, on your vehicle. Check fuel and other fluids, test your breaks, tire pressure, test your lights, turn signals and windshield wipers to ensure that everything is filled and working properly.

Be ready: Be ready for a delay or traffic, be sure to pack drinks and snacks for yourself and others that are along for the ride.

Check the weather: It is always wise to check the weather prior to leaving, not only at your place and the destination, but also along the way.

Check GPS: Check your app or GPS of choice for real-time and up to date road construction, road closures, accidents, as well as delays.

Be patient and smart: Remember, Holidays are frantic enough so try to be patient and understand that some things are out of our control. Drive safe and smart. If you feel yourself getting tired ask another licensed driver to take over, if you do not have that option be sure to take a rest break. During this time many highways offer Free Coffee at rest stops.
